Field of Frozen Flowers

July 23, 2010

In a field of frozen flowers, I’m wandering
Inhaling the icy breeze
Frost crunching underneath each step.
Eyes met with white blankets every way they turn.

Overnight summer turned to winter
And spring never became again.
3 years to the day
Since this winter has begun.
The flowers left without time to fade,
Frozen here in time.

And now I trek through them
Where I used to run and skip.
One wrong step ends a flower forever.
And today stops many for good.

In a field of frozen flowers,
Where I’ve been since she left.
Each day only grows colder
Glaciers building stronger.

Each day spent in the arctic
Dreads the next
Kills the hope of spring’s return
And dream of love’s arrival.
